Life Lesson From A Doodth Wala

Life has strange way of teaching us . It often teaches us through people we least expect but thats how it is.

Recently my partner had a wonderful learning experience. The building where he stays has a large family. They belong to desai community and are into milk business. Although they are affluent but they themselves deliver milk in some areas and for other areas they have hire people.

A week back one of this family member had his wedding. His name is ramesh. ramesh is handsome young man of 21-22 . That day was his marriage. Since it was occasion of celebration , his relative were doing garba (tradional dance of gujarat) early in the morning. Because of noice of dhol , my partner got awakened. It was 5:30 in the morning. Since it was occasion of marriage , as well as garba (both being favorite for my partner ) , my partner decided to wake up and see garba along with washing his car.

So he went downstairs and enjoyed viewing garba for half n hour. Suddenly he saw ramesh carrying his milk tank , dressed in his usual coming downstairs. Surprised to see him at his work my partner said to him -'aabe aaj to teri shaadi hai' ..

ramesh -'shaadi meri hai , mere customers ki naahi. unko kyun taklif leni pade. vaise bhi shaadi abhi nahi hai , duper ki hai'.

The coversation was in gujarati but i transalated it in hindi. My partner got one of best lessons of life which he shared with me too. Marriage in Indian Society is the biggest occasion in any person's life but at that time too , ramesh was concerned about his customers , about his committement to his profession.

Putting customer above personal benefit is key to create brand , serve better and have successful business.

Lesson Fell Learnt ramesh and congrats for your wedding.

In 1959 I returned from the U.K with a Ph.D. degree. Our family farmer- a street smart guy came to congratulate me. Curious about my prosperity as "foreign returned" he asked " How many rupees you have in your pocket right now?" I replied " Ten". Unimpressed he was and then advised " son, always carry a 100 denomination currency of the country you are in". Great thinking for a guy who had not crossed the boundary of our village. Indian intrinsic wisdom! Open your minds to learning-wireless knowledge floats in Air India. Just tune in.
